I have been busy surfing the web last week looking for the best flight and accommodation rates to a neighboring country. You see, my NGO intends to send some delegates to a Congress to be held at a neighboring country some time this year, but within the limited budget from our training funds, we have to go for budget travelling. There's not much we can do about the registration fees for the Congress, except to go for early bird registration (which ends 28th Feb), but we can choose the cheaper rates for flight and accommodation (naik tongkang cheaper lah, but got to take much longer leave from work!!).
After getting a few reasonably priced package last week, by Sunday I listed down the packages which seemed affordable. On Monday morning, I decided to check the rates again - we were having our Board meeting that night and I wanted to discuss the matter with the Board. Our monthly Board meetings are supposed to be the last Tuesdays of each month, but since I needed to be in KL on Tuesday, we brought forward the meeting to Monday.
To my surprise, when I checked the rates on Monday morning, the very same packages for the very same accommodations offered by the very same company, had shot up in pricing! Aiseh, menyesal le pulak tak book awal-awal... but I couldn't book earlier because firstly, I'd need to get the Board's approval before booking, and secondly, I had yet to get the confirmed number of people going.
I was in KL yesterday, attending a half day seminar; followed by an interview/photo shoot for a monthly magazine (re my NGO work). By the time I got back in the evening, I had a rough idea of how many people from our NGO will be attending the Congress. So last night, I surfed the website of a low-cost carrier, and saw that for bookings until 1st March, the fare to that specific city we're going to starts from RM5 one way! Needless to say, I got excited and tried to book. But I guess there are VERY limited seats available at that price, and for the dates that I searched for, there were no RM5 seats available. Buat penat getting excited aje lah...
Can anyone guess where we're going? No prize for the right answer though... :)

Medan? Bangkok? Eh eh! RM5 ke mana yeh? Ni yang buat takboleh tidur! PI??????
Bali? Kalau Jakarta, you can get for RM376 (return) on KLM.
Pi, MAS baru aje buat their travel fare kan? Matta will be mid March and I think if you approach them, maybe they'll give you a better rate since you bukan nak go for holiday.
Kak Pi,
I don't buy those RM5 seats anymore. Nampak je murah, kita pun kelam kabut nak order. And then bila dah campur tax itu ini, macam tu lah jugak pricenya...sama je dgn yang lain.
I think you nak ke Bangkok ni...betul tak?
Papua New Guinea?
Mamasita,
Eh, eh... dia pulak yang dah terexcited lebih! You masuk je lah website low cost carrier tu. Ada a few places yang offer low fares ni - tapi tak tentu le you boleh dapat on the dates that you want.
QOTH,
Wah, very clever lah you. Pandai meneka! Kalau nak gi Jakarta, MAS and Air Asia got lower all-inclusive fares now.
Farina,
MAS memang tengah offer lower rates for online bookings right now - but after checking, their all inclusive rates is still higher than the other carrier.
Naz,
Actually those seats are limited, sekejap aje on offer dah sold out. Kalau nak gi Jakarta, can get a one way fare of RM6 (all inclusive RM54) tapi return lebih sikit sebab the RM6 fare not available. Still cheaper lah than normal fares, cuma nak booking je payah sikit. Baru dilly dally sikit dah sold out.
And no, I bukan nak gi Bangkok, yang tu tak yah naik tongkang... ;)
Kerp,
Ah, tekaan yang lain dari yang lain! Awatnya, you ada dengar-dengar any conferences on AIDS to be held there ke? Tapi no lah, not PNG.
Amboi! Ni nakpi merayau kemana la pulak? Cek nak pi Hong Kong ka?
hmmm... klu low-cost carrier tu buat offer, kena rebut cepat2 sbb memang cepat abis. klu harga biasa, bila dah campur tax and what-nots memang le sama dgn MAS or other airlines. That's why it's especially good to buy when they have special offers like that, murah siot! RM5 fare campur airport tax/fuel surcharge sumer ada dlm RM200-RM250 kut-- still very much cheaper than the other airlines.
i klu nak rasa nak jenjalan, i beli terus masa ada offer, then lepas tu baru buat plan around the dates booked. Kdg2, tak jadi gi pulak sbb ada hal lain, tapi tak kisahlah, buleh burn aje sbb tak mahal sgt
Kak Puteri,
Dak aihh... bukan nak pi Hong Kong. You tanya QOTH, dia pandai teka... ;) Actually the Congress itself 5 hari, tapi I dok extend 2 hari, alang-alang dah sampai might as well merayau kan, tapi tak lah jadi kutu rayau. A few others dok extend 4 hari, tapi for myself pi seminggu tu pun dah cukup lama dah.
Sue,
I tak dapat yang RM5 tu, tapi dok targetting another promo where I can still save over RM100 per person compared to normal rates or even other airlines promo rates. Problem is, I ada specific dates I need the tickets for, so tak boleh lah main book aje any day yang ada ticket RM5. And nak book pulak for 8 people.
Komen Pak Malim, kucing ray yg alim.
Nak pi mana, kata Pak Malim yg merana. Saya nak ikut sekali, boleh? kata Pak Malim sambil memegang koleh.
abis mana? phi phi island?
Pak Malim,
Pak Malim nak ikut? tanya Pi Bani sambil makan biskut. Masuk ajelah dalam bagasi, kata Pi Bani sambil makan nasi.
Kerp,
Laahai... phi phi island le pulak. No lah, it's ba alif lam ya.
Hi, Pi Bani!
